Andrew Jackson as Everard by rebellion Andrew Jackson as Everard by rebellion
You know, more than once in a while, I'll run into someone. They'll happen to sit beside me on a bus bench, or I'll brush shoulders with them on a sidewalk. I see them from a distance, and something about their face captivates me. I find something unique about it, some kind of quality I can't define that draws me to them; and makes me want to ask if I could please sketch them quickly. I never ask anyone, of course, cause I'm way too shy and that would just be plain creepy.
But as I was working this summer, one of the many jobs I was rotated through involved the handling and transactions of chash (aka, clerk). The place I worked was a big tourism hotspot, so we'd take american money as well as canadian. Now, I have no idea who Andrew Jackson is, or what part he played in American history. I just felt that artist's attraction in the face on the american 20. So, I found another picture, and drew the portait.

I know it isn't a perfect likeness or whatever, but I changed bits and pieces. I think I liked that face so much because it was exactly what I'd imagined for one of my characters... You're prolly all thinking 'BLASPHEMY!'. I know. But I don't care. This face was exactly what I was looking for, and since A.J. has been dead for gosh knows how long, and his picture is common, there was no awkwardness involved like when i saw the person in the street. So, HA.

I just jotted the vague likeness as shown on the 20 onto a piece of paper, and since i did that, I didn't have any strict shading to go by: I had to make a lot of it up. >> I screwed with the clothing too, did you notice?

Nicely detailed and stylized. The face is very well rendered. Fine resemblance. Solid work.

Wow! Awesome as always!
It's such a shame that the page was folded or that you couldn't get the fold out better. It looks really good. I love your shading and I can definatly see why this is a face that attracted you to it. It's definatly your kind of face.

... what's THAT supposed to mean? 'My kind of face'?! I don't care it's folded. It's good where it's supposed to be.

Eeps! *hides* It is good. And it's 'your kind of face' in that it's a face you'd definatly like.
It definatly is good but folds suck.

I don't know who that is, but that's an awesome portrait. It looks wonderfully realistic and yet cartoonish at the same time. Caricature? (Sp?) Haha, awesome job!

And -- yay, you're back! :D

Nope, not a caricature, that was me trying to draw that face. XD I didn't want to do the hair too well, or the silly garb i chucked him in, cause i was worried it would take away from the face, and I kind of liked it, you know.

(splutterchokes) (explodes)

all that time i thought you were working you were really training in some asian dojo under the instruction of some unbelievable master, weren't you! (waggles finger)

as an aussie, I've no idea who Andrew Jackson is/was...but this pic is phenominal the eyes are...no words...

and i sympathise with the 'i want to draw your head, but i don't want you to think I'm creepy' thing...usually i ask my friends...or do it to complete strangers without permission...

LMAO! If you call training under and asian master bussing tables, serving soup and working in a gift shop for ten and a half hours a day, starting at 7:30, working 5 + days a week, then yeah. I trained hard. XD

I missed you, dojangers! And as a Canadian, i have no idea either, and apparently, neither do most americans... i asked several while i was working. I only know his name cause i read the bottom of the bill.

Yeah, the old, wowyourcooliwannadrawyourhead... waitidon'twannaomeoffasaweirdo... it's a plague, isn't it?

the crumple adds character- age to the piece, matches president jackson's characteristic hair; great drawing :)

:) Thanks! It was actually the hair that first made me go O.O! :p Thanks so much for your encouragement... (Are you sure the rest is right? I stole the collar cause I liked it and I'd never seen it before, and maybe that style of tie is okay... but even the celtic cross? There is a tiny wee Catholic preist's collar in their too... comewhere... T_T; I'm a freak, what can I say.)
